Do you regularly train with boxing or kickboxing? Then your hands take quite a beating. Especially if you hit the punching bag a lot or are still working on your technique, you'll notice it in your knuckles and wrists. Inner gloves help absorb this impact. They provide extra protection and ensure you can continue to train comfortably.
What are inner gloves?
Inner gloves are thin gloves worn under your boxing or kickboxing gloves. They form an extra layer between your hand and the glove. This reduces blisters, chafing, and sore knuckles.
Additionally, they absorb sweat. Without this layer, moisture goes directly into your boxing gloves, which eventually leads to odor. Inner gloves help limit this and keep your gloves fresh longer.
What types of inner gloves are there?
Not every inner glove is the same. The main differences are in protection and fit.
Standard inner gloves: quick to put on and take off and keep your boxing gloves cleaner. No extra wrist support, but fine for daily use.
Inner gloves with gel padding: extra cushioning at the knuckles. Especially noticeable if you do a lot of punching bag work.
Inner gloves with integrated wraps: combine an inner glove with a built-in wrap for extra wrist support. Great for intensive training or sparring.
If you train lightly, a simple version is often sufficient. If you train more intensively, you'll quickly notice the difference with extra protection.
How to choose the right inner gloves?
The right choice mainly depends on how you train. As a beginner, your hands often take more of a beating. Then extra cushioning or wrist support is pleasant. If you've been training longer, you'll pay more attention to fit and what feels comfortable.
Always consider the combination with your boxing gloves. Inner gloves that are too thick will make your gloves too tight, while those that are too thin will add little.
Materials of inner gloves
Most inner gloves are made of cotton or elastic materials. Cotton breathes well and absorbs sweat but fits a bit looser. Elastic materials fit more snugly and stay in place better during training.
Models with gel or foam have extra padding at the knuckles to better absorb impact.
What size do you need?
Inner gloves are available in XS, S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Measure the circumference of your hand with a measuring tape, around the knuckles with a clenched fist. Then use the table below as a guideline.
Size
Glove size advice
- XS: up to 16 cm
- S: 16 – 17 cm
- M: 17 – 19 cm
- L: 19 – 21 cm
- XL: 21 – 23 cm
- XXL: from 23 cm
They should fit snugly without pinching. If they are too loose, your hand will move too much, and you'll lose protection. If they are too tight, training will quickly become uncomfortable. Preferably try them on with your boxing gloves to ensure everything works well together.
Popular brands of inner gloves
At The Fight Company, you'll find inner gloves from TFC, Venum, Hayabusa, Everlast, and Booster.
Venum is known for its fit and design. Hayabusa focuses on extra protection with gel padding, ideal for athletes who train a lot on the bag. Everlast is an accessible choice with various price ranges. Booster is widely used in the kickboxing world.
For which combat sport are inner gloves suitable?
You use inner gloves for all sports where you wear boxing gloves. They are standard for boxing and kickboxing. They are also widely used in Muay Thai, especially for bag training and pad work.

Frequently asked questions about inner gloves
What is the difference between inner gloves and hand wraps?
Hand wraps you wrap yourself around your hand and wrist and provide more support. Inner gloves are put on directly and are easier to use. Also, check out our range of hand wraps.
Are inner gloves mandatory for training or competitions?
For training, inner gloves are a convenient choice for extra protection and hygiene. They are not used in competitions; most federations require hand wraps. Always check this with your trainer or the organizing party beforehand.
Can you wash inner gloves?
Most inner gloves can be machine washed at 30 or 40 degrees Celsius. However, check the label, as models with gel padding are better hand-washed to protect the padding. Then let them air dry.
How long do inner gloves last?
With normal use, they last an average of six months to a year. If you train multiple times a week, they will wear out faster. Replace them when the elastic is stretched out or an odor no longer disappears after washing.
Are there special inner gloves for women or children?
Some brands offer smaller sizes, but ultimately, it's all about a good fit.
